| Members
of the Hunt-Dis on line group for HD families came up with the idea for
a Huntington's Disease Memorial Quilt (hereafter called The Quilt) to honor
our HD loved ones, friends and family members living or deceased.
As you can well imagine, this was a major undertaking. The Quilt is proudly being displayed for the first time at the 2001 Huntington’s Disease Society of America’s (HDSA) National Convention in San Diego June 29 - July 1. It will be displayed at the Woody Guthrie Festival in Okeman, OK July 11-15, the Family Day at the Guthrie Center in Barrington, MA. August 4th, and at the Colorado HD Center of Excellence September 29th. Hunt-Dis is a worldwide Huntington's Disease discussion group with over 400 members, offering support and advice to anyone living with Huntington's Disease. More information and instructions on how to join can be found here: http://www.hdac.org/huntdis/index.html The "dream" of making the Quilt became a reality through the dedication of a few Hunt-Dis members, with support from the HDSA Chapters, Support Groups, Centers of Excellence and HD families from around the USA. A special "thank you" goes to two angels on earth, Mollie Ressa and Annette Williams. Mollie volunteered hundreds of hours of her time to assemble the first section of the quilt. Annette, a "Hunt-Diser", volunteered countless hours coordinating with families and the quilting group, making the Quilt Book of Bio's, and taking pictures of the squares received. A
special “thank you” to all of the families who lovingly made quilt pieces,
filled with heartfelt memories, of a special person with HD in their lives.
